Friday dinner

Since I just explained about the monthly food themes, let me also include this month's Is My Blog Burning theme. My carrot dish could arguably count for this month's theme, but it is not very complex, and I'm not going to submit it anyway.

So, dinner last night was also done by me. I made meatloaf for Dad because it is one of his favorites and I had kumquat ginger carrots and squash casserole (for Jon). It's amazing to me that I ever cook for my family, they are picky, largely unwilling to try things that are too new or "exotic" and they don't generally seem to appreciate my efforts even though they usually enjoy them. I continue to cook for them anyway though because I am so desperate to cook and get some feedback. Also, it's not especially fun cooking for one person, so it's better to have other people around to try my food. Last night Dad loved the meatloaf and was impressed by the carrots. Jon doesn't like meatloaf, so Dad made him a hamburger. He sampled a carrot and said the kumquats tasted like grapefruit (they didn't) so he didn't want any more. He loved the squash casserole (as usual) so he ate lots of that, and Dad enjoyed it too.
Here are the results:

So, that was the comfort food for the weekend, look for an exciting new dish for tonight with our friend "Mr. Max" in town for a few days.
