Pre-4th of July feasting

I was planning on making this meal for the 4th, but since Dad was going down the street to the neighbor's party, I figured I should make it the night before instead. To start I made bistro french fries with rosemary and garlic.

They were there to go with the ever-fabulous Napa Valley Cabernet Burgers which I've mentioned before. We didn't have heirloom tomatoes and foccacia bread this time, but these juicy burgers still passed the test.

To go with the burger I also made corn on the cob that we kept in the husks and cooked on the grill. Dad was a little intimidated by this concept having never cooked corn that way before, and honestly I'd never done it myself either, but I was confident that I had the right idea. I left the husks on, soaked the corn in water for 10 minutes so it wouldn't burn, and then we put it right on the grill. Once the skin blackened we took it off, and the corn was steamed to perfection. I think Dad was impressed. Frankly, so was I.
For dessert I made Emeril's spiked watermelon sorbet. It seemed summery, and the color was so cool.
