Homemade sauce - a first!
I have to post quickly because it's raining heavily and I don't want to be mid-post if the power goes out. Last night for dinner no one wanted to go to the grocery, so we were left fixing something we had on hand. I suggested pasta, and everyone agreed. But, before I had pasta I had this caesar salad - yum!
For my pasta I used Dream-fields linguini. For my sauce I made my own sauce! This is a monumental event because it's something I've never done before. I had this recipe that I gleaned from the book "True Believer" by Nicolas Sparks. It is a simple a basic recipe for homemade sauce, which I figured would be good for my first time making it when I wasn't to interested in a big production and only had certain ingredients on hand. For the sauce you take one large can of San Marzano tomatoes, one onion (I used vidalia) cut in half, and half a stick of butter. That's it, no herbs or spices, no garlic, no meat, nothing else. You simply put in the ingredients in a sauce pot, stir, bring to a boil, then set to low and let it cook for an hour and a half. The house smelled really good during the hour and half cooking process. The resulting sauce is surprisingly sweet, but still quite good for a first time sauce. I would probably be inclined to add more things to the sauce in the future just because I like the extra layers of flavors, but this is a good, simple sauce. Here's the documenting picture (this is not MY bowl, it's the serving bowl, I didn't eat that much pasta):
