Packaged lunch

I've been eating lots of salad lately, and today for lunch I had: a salad! Shocking, I know, so I wasn't going to document it, but then I had second thoughts. I had one of those cartons of mixed greens from Publix. I like mixed greens, but you always have to pick out the grossly wilted pieces (well, I do). However, this batch was the freshest one I've ever had, the lettuce was all so good, I was really impressed. To go with it I was going to have golden raisin, walnuts, parmesan, and chicken. The chicken was a last minute decision because I remembered that I had some of the precooked in a package variety. Are we starting to see where the packaged part is coming in? I didn't actually do any cooking for lunch, but nonetheless... I go to get out the chicken, and having been in our refrigerator for an undisclosed amount of time, I was unsure of its freshness. But, ever hopeful, I decided to sniff it and make my decision thusly. Sadly, sniffing it left me even more unsure. It smelled faintly sour, but it was hard to tell, and how does one know what precooked, vacuum-packed chicken smells like anyway? Maybe that is a normal smell. So, bravely (or foolishly) I removed a small piece of chicken and prepared to put it in my mouth. Just as it touched my lips it fell out of my hand and to the floor. I took this as a sign that I wasn't supposed to eat the chicken. And thankful for such a blatant sign, I promptly threw the rest of it away and went for the fresh package (which, incidentally, smelled much better and chickeny). I had raspberry vinaigrette dressing with it. and it was all delicious. My picture includes crafty product placement (I'm so shameful!) See the CD carefully tucked behind the salad bowl? That the CD of the guy I'm going to see play tonight. His name is Ray LaMontagne and he is an awesome musician, plus, his CD has a picture of a woman dancing with the devil on it, so that's cool too. Can't wait for the show, but here's lunch!
